I think that the meaning of this is that the “real cool” people are basically the ones who don’t follow the rules and get into trouble. The last line said “die soon” which is telling me they are going to get into trouble that might physically hurt them. CommonLit is useful because it lets you read passages for free and they’re very interesting to read. It gives you more things to think about during you read.
Archetypes and The Tradigy of Julius Caesar
An archetype is an image, or a symbol that reoccurs again and again. Archetypes are basically examples of what a hero or a villain is. Archetypes also represent a quest, or a task. One example I have is the movie “Sky High” The movie is about a school in the sky where teens learn how to be superheroes, Will Stronghold lands in a class for students who show special promise. Classmate Gwen quickly cozies up to Will, but it’s soon clear that she has other motives. When he learns that Gwen’s mother is a villain who was defeated by his father, Steve Stronghold Will realizes that Gwen is aiming for revenge, and he rushes to a school dance in the hope of stopping her.
In that movie there is a villain which is named Gwen like explained above. She gets an innocent young man to fall for her just for her revenge on his parents. She is very strong and smart, smarter than the main character, will. At the end of the movie she almost kills Will and his parents, but Will defeats her and gets his parents back.
Another Archetype I identified is a quest. The movie I chose for quest is The wizard of Oz. In the wizard of Oz the little girl was lost and went on a quest to find her home, and her family. She didnt know where to go but with the help of her friends she finally was safe.
The last archetype I found was the movie home. The movie is about after a hive-minded alien race called the Boov conquer the Earth, they relocate the planet’s human population, all except for a little girl named Tip, who’s managed to hide from the aliens. When Tip meets a fugitive Boov called Oh , there’s mutual distrust. However, Oh is not like his comrades. He craves friendship and fun. As their distrust fades, the pair set out together to find Tip’s mother. So Tip helped Boov to find her mother, so I would say Tip was a hero.
Puritans and Predestination
Puritans are a member of a group of English Protestants of the late 16th and 17th centuries who regarded the Reformation of the Church of England under Elizabeth as incomplete and sought to simplify and regulate forms of worship. They have very similar beliefs. The Puritans believed in Predestination. What is this? Predestination was the belief that God gave you a fate when born. Humans make choices and God has an idea of what those choices should be. God doesn’t determine the actions humans will make. That is what Puritans believed.
How did the belief in Predestination affect the way Puritans lived? Puritans believed that the most of their life should be devoted to worshiping God, praying and asking forgiveness from God for their sins. Priest would say everyone is damned to go to hell but only few will be saved. Puritans created this first formal school in this county. The school taught children Latin and how to read the bible. They had to pay a tuition to attend the school. Attendance was very limited to boys. The doctrine of Predestination kept all Puritans constantly working to do good in this life to be chosen in the next eternal one. They believed God had already chosen who would be in heaven or hell, and each believer had no way of knowing what group they were in. Those who were wealthy were obviously blessed by God and were in good standing with him. The protestant work ethic was the belief that hard work was an honor to God which would lead which would lead to a prosperous reward. Any deviations from the normal way of Puritan life met the strict disapproval and discipline.
Most of the Puritans settled in New England area. As they immigrated and formed individual colonies they’re numbers rose from 17,800 in 1640 to 106,000 in 1700. Religious exclusiveness was the foremost principal of their society. The spiritual beliefs that they held were strong. The strength held over to include community laws and customs. Since God was the forefront of their minds, he was to motivate all of their actions. The premise worked both for them and against them. There are many more fascinating facts and details about how Puritans lived and what they believed in. It would be very interesting to research.
The person who changed my life.
Our class recently read a short story called “The teacher who changed my life.” In my case, it wasn’t a teacher who changed my life but a hardworking teenager. Her name is Shawn Johnson, she is a gold-metal winning olympic gymnast who strived me to do gymnastics and reach my goal. Sadly I didn’t reach my goal in competing in the olympics but its fine because I had a blast doing gymnastics, but I broke my wrist so my mom took me out because she didn’t want me getting hurt again.
Shawn Johnson is a fearless women who archived her goal/dream. She was coached by Liang Chow and Liwen Zhuang. When Shawn was 12, she competed in the junior olympics. Later on she competed in the world wide olympics. She is the 2008 Olympic balance beam gold medalist and team, all-around and floor exercise silver medalist.
She inspires me to get back in gymnastics and reach my goal. I watch her gymnastics videos all the time because they are very interesting and I could learn something from her. Gymnastics is a really hard sport that takes time, flexibility, courage, strength, high mind set, and much more. Heres a video link that shows Shawn Johnson’s PERFECT balance beam routine in the 2008 olympics. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NiaE7amNW7s

Dogs That Survive Cold Temperatures
This week we watched a video clip called “To Build a fire.” It was very interesting and this man was traveling in very cold snowing weather and along with him was a dog. I began to wonder if the dog was cold. I began to gather questions and research them.
My first question was “What breeds of dogs can survive cold temperatures?” After I researched that question I found that Akitas, German Shepherds, and Siberian Husky’s are some dogs that can survive the cold temperatures. My second question was “How long do those dogs live?” I learned that Akitas live 13-15 years, German Shepherds live 9-13 years, and Siberian Husky’s live about 12-15 years. My last question was “What makes the dogs able to stand the cold weather?” Because of the shape of their eyes Siberian Husky’s can squint to the point of barley exposing their eye. German Shepherds are northern dogs and very thick fur. Akitas LOVE the cold weather and have a very strong undercoat.
Those were some of the questions the video clip drove me to ask because i thought the dog was freezing. One part of the clip the dog stepped in frozen water that got stuck to his paw, the dog began to lick the ice off but the man rushed over and licked it off the dogs foot because the dogs tongue could have froze to his foot.
The questions I researched and the answers I found were very interesting. I did not have any trouble researching them. They answers came from very reliable sources. If you live in a cold place and/or want a pet it would better to research about that pet and its environment to keep it happy!
